Ukraine and the EU have started negotiations on new trade rules to replace the “trade visa-free regime”

On Monday, June 2, the European Union and Ukraine began the first formal negotiations on new trade conditions that will replace the autonomous trade measures establishing a preferential trade regime for Ukrainian exporters.

This was announced at a briefing in Brussels on June 2 by European Commission spokesperson Olof Gill.

The European Commission spokesperson stated that the first negotiations on new long-term conditions for Ukrainian exporters to the EU would take place on June 2.

He clarified that the autonomous trade measures for Ukraine are set to expire on June 5.

Previously, the European Commission told “European Pravda” that on June 6, transitional measures will replace the “trade visa-free regime” with Ukraine. These measures will return Ukrainian exporters to the tariff quotas under the existing Ukraine-EU free trade area, with some preferences.

The transitional measures will remain in effect until Ukraine and the EU complete negotiations on amending the existing Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area (DCFTA) between Ukraine and the EU. The new version of the agreement will include long-term conditions for Ukrainian exporters to the EU, incorporating elements of further trade liberalization.
