The Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) has extended the anti-dumping duty on imports of galvanized steel from China and Ukraine for another five years, until June 9, 2030.
The decision was made following a repeated anti-dumping investigation launched on September 2, 2024. The investigation was prompted by the approaching expiration of existing restrictions and requests from national producers in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), including Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works (MMK), NLMK, and Severstal.
The duty was first introduced on December 3, 2019, by EEC Council Decision No. 209. It sets a rate of 12.69–17% for galvanized steel from China, depending on the specific producer, and 23.9% of the customs value for products from Ukraine.
The Eurasian Economic Union comprises five countries: Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Russia. The primary goal of extending the duties is to protect the domestic market from unfair competition due to cheaper imports.
The EEC decision allows for early review of the anti-dumping measures if trade policies change or new circumstances arise.
