EU share in Ukrainian sugar exports dropped to 40%

In 2023, the vast majority (98%) of Ukrainian sugar exports were directed to EU markets, but in 2024, this figure decreased to 40%.

The European market remains a priority for Ukrainian sugar producers, primarily due to logistical advantages, such as the ability to deliver goods by land transport at any time, in any quantity, to any destination.

At the same time, in recent years, Ukraine has been actively increasing exports to North Macedonia, which is confidently becoming one of the top export destinations for Ukrainian sugar outside the EU.

Markets in Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Albania are also of interest, though there are certain restrictions due to tariffs. Here, support from the Ministry of Economy and the Ministry of Agrarian Policy is expected. The northern part of Africa and Middle Eastern countries are also promising, as sugar can be conveniently transported via the Black Sea and further through the Mediterranean. Additionally, Turkey has been the leading buyer of Ukrainian sugar for two consecutive years.
