The volume of capital investments in Ukraine’s agricultural sector is the lowest compared to the EU

The volume of capital investments in Ukraine’s agricultural sector per 1 hectare of agricultural land, amounting to about $100, is the lowest compared to the United Kingdom and EU countries.

The dynamics of capital investments in agricultural development during wartime are quite unstable, and the overall volumes are insufficient for its expanded development. Over the past 10 years, there have been three (!) investment declines –  in 2015, 2020, and 2022.

In the best pre-war year, 2021, investments reached UAH 68 billion, or $2.5 billion. In 2023, the level of investments in Ukraine’s agricultural sector was UAH 63.8 billion, or $1.7 billion. This represents a decline of almost one-third in dollar terms.

Such investment volumes are insufficient, as global practice suggests that stable agricultural development is ensured when capital investments exceed $150 per hectare.
