The export of Ukrainian walnuts has nearly halted following the government’s adoption of Resolution No. 1261, which introduced an export assurance regime in Ukraine and took effect on December 1, 2024.
Prior to this, Ukraine ranked 4th globally in walnut exports, annually selling over 23,000 tons of shelled walnuts. Ukrainian walnuts were actively purchased by France, Romania, Greece, and the Netherlands. In-shell walnuts were exported to Iraq, Azerbaijan, Turkey, Bulgaria, and other countries.
Currently, walnuts account for 43% of Ukraine’s nut orchards, covering an area of 6,140 hectares.
